Recently I got the problem of login screen in windows XP, As it is asking for Login conformation every time even it don't have the password and even not having multiple accounts. For this problem we have the solution here in many ways. I prefer the Start and Run method for this.

Using Userpasswords2 :

  1. Click Start and Run
  2. Type Control Userpasswords2 and press enter.
  3. Uncheck the box for "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer."
  4. Click Apply and Ok.

Use TweakUI:

  1. Download and install TweakUI.
  2. Once installed and open, click the plus next to Logon.
  3. Click AutoLogon.
  4. Check the box to Log on automatically at system startup.

Through the registry (regedit):

  1. Open regedit.
  2. OpenHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
  3. In the DefaultUserName make sure it is current set to the username you wish to log in as.
  4. Then, in the DefaultPassword type the password you use to login. If you do not see this, create a new String Value with this name.
  5. Next, open AutoAdminLogon and set the value to 1. If you do not see this, create a new String Value with this name.
  6. , once all values have been set close regedit and restart the computer.
* To create a string value click EditNew, and then click String Value. Name the string value for what was missing there. Once created double-click the string value to change its value.
Disabling prompt for password after Windows XP resumes from standby or hibernation
  1. Click Start, Settings, and Control Panel
  2. Double-click Power Options
  3. Uncheck the "Prompt for password when computer resumes from standby" option.
  4. Click Apply and then Ok.
